MADRID PREPARES TO WELCOME MORE THAN 16 CONFIRMED DELEGATIONS FOR THE 2026 FISU WORLD UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIP MODERN PENTATHLON

With just two months to go until the event begins, Madrid has already received confirmation from more than 16 national delegations that will take part in the FISU World University Championship Modern Pentathlon, to be held from 16 to 19 August 2026.

Madrid continues its preparations to become the world capital of university modern pentathlon this summer. With only two months remaining before the start of the competition, more than sixteen international delegations have officially confirmed their participation in the 2026 FISU World University Championship Modern Pentathlon.

The countries already confirmed include Australia, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Türkiye and the United Kingdom, with additional delegations expected to join in the coming weeks.

The championship will bring together some of the world’s leading university athletes in an innovative and exciting format combining obstacle racing and laser run, which will feature as the official competition programme of the event.

Madrid will be at the centre of an event that will further strengthen Spain’s international reputation as a host of major sporting and university competitions. The event is being organised by the Spanish Modern Pentathlon Federation (FEPM), in collaboration with the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the Spanish Sports Council (CSD), the Camilo José Cela University and the various institutions involved.

Over recent months, the Local Organising Committee has been working intensively on key operational areas including accommodation, transport, accreditation, medical services, volunteers, protocol and sport operations, with the aim of delivering a world-class experience for both participants and international officials.

“The international response to the championship has been extremely encouraging. The confirmation of these first delegations reflects the confidence that the global university sports community places in Madrid and in Spain’s ability to deliver sporting events of the highest standard,” said representatives of the organising committee.

Beyond its sporting significance, the championship will provide an excellent opportunity to promote Madrid internationally, attracting athletes, coaches, officials and university representatives from across the globe, while generating significant visibility, tourism and institutional impact.

With the countdown now well underway, Madrid is finalising preparations to welcome the world’s university modern pentathlon elite and deliver an event that aims to become a benchmark within the international university sports calendar.
