Competition

Competitions will take place in venues carefully selected to provide the best possible conditions for athletes and spectators alike. Each site reflects the host country’s commitment to university sport, offering high-quality facilities in a setting designed for international events.

Competition format

The FISU World University Championship Modern Pentathlon Madrid 2026 will be held under the authority of FISU and in full compliance with the FISU General Regulations and applicable Technical Regulations

The championship will include the official disciplines of Obstacles (OCR) and Laser Run, with competitions in the following categories:

  • Men’s Individual
  • Women’s Individual
  • Teams (mix)
  • Mixed Relay

Participation is open to eligible university student-athletes aged 18-25 in 2026 (born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2008), who are nationals of the country they represent and meet FISU’s academic requirements.

Each delegation must be entered by its respective National Federation of University Sports (NUSF) through the official FISU accreditation system.

In accordance with FISU anti-doping regulations, doping checks will be carried out during the championship under the supervision of the FISU International Medical Committee, ensuring the highest standards of integrity and fair play.

Venues

The Championship will take Venues at the University Camilo José Cela (UCJC), in its Villafranca Campus, a privileged environment located about 20 km from the center of Madrid and about 30 minutes from the Adolfo Suárez International Airport Madrid-Barajas.

Located on a campus of more than 100 hectares, surrounded by nature and extensive green areas, the place offers a peaceful, safe and healthy environment, ideal for concentration and optimal sports performance.

The campus has modern and fully equipped sports facilities – including indoor halls and outdoor training areas – with capacity to host international competitions under official standards. This university space combines high-quality sports infrastructure with a contemporary academic environment, providing the perfect balance between calm, functionality and proximity to the vibrant life of the Spanish capital.

Technical equipment

The competition will be carried out according to the specific UIPM, rules in force at the moment of the competition.

  • Obstacle: Outdoors – straight line – grass surface

    (Steps, Big wheel, Rings, Over-Under-Though, Wheels, Balance Beam, Monkey Bars, Finish Wall)
  • Running Course: Grass
  • Laser Run: 25 + 2 shooting range with Pentashot hit&miss targets

Trainings

The training programme will begin on 14 and 15 August, with two-hour training sessions aimed at allowing athletes to familiarise themselves with the facilities and with the OCR and Laser Run disciplines.

During the competition days (17, 18 and 19 August), each day will start with a short general training session prior to the athletes’ presentation and the start of the competitions.
